Sometimes Ingrained is simply me, a camera, and my trusty audio recorder. I was wondering Benson looking for something to shoot and walked into the Barley once again to find Andrew Ancona of Noah’s Ark Was A Spaceship playing solo. The dark night was perfect for the sad story of the song Dark Moon. Enjoy this little nugget.

Lastly, fresh from mixing and mastering a new album with Doug Van Sloun of Focus Mastering, Poison Control Center ripped through a new set of singles and classics. As the night progressed and drinks were flowing, a frisky fan kept inviting himself to the mic to promote what I guessing was a sad after-show party featuring professional crying games (did anyone go? I would love to hear about it!). Brushed aside by the crowd, our intrepid fan threw a inflatable sex doll into the chaos that is PCC and surprisingly it stuck, to headstanding guitar player Devin. For entire song, Devin and the sex doll had an insatiable love/hate chemistry as they clung together no matter where Devin dove, ducked, and dodged. Even attempts to scrape their relationship onto Dave the drummer were failures. So enraptured by these events, I forgot I had camera in hand, only recognizing this as I wiped the tears from my eyes. Another classic night with PCC and why you shouldn’t miss them next time they swing on through.

My friend Django who does Love Drunk also plays in Down With The Ship, a stellar roots rocking band. Normally, I shoot very naturally but I was playing with an effect earlier int he day and decided to go with it. Tell me what you think?

“Are they reliving the past or projecting a hazy future?” I asked myself as NAWAS settled into their album release show Feb. 25 at the Waiting Room Lounge. Out of the feedback, they coaxed one of my favorite songs, “Warm Eyes,” off their Slumber Party Records release, Hanga-Fang. It’s such a freeing song — a base of happy grunge, indie pop experimentation, and echoing hazed-out vocals. If you dream of the ’90s, then you’re in deep REM right now.

When they hit the chorus, I get that feeling that I’m being lifted off the ground. You know, that “Flight-of-the-Navigators”-tingling where you’re flying over trees and lakes at breakneck speed. I’m not feeling so old anymore. “Set me on fire” only makes sense as fast as I’m going. And then I realized, it wasn’t about what time I was teleported to, it was about space. And this was a place I wanted to go.

Here is another Ingrained video with instrumental rock band The Answer Team. Less nerdy than most post-rock instrumental bands, these guys are huge on melodic swaying hooks. Enjoy!

Here’s the next Ingrained video with Irkutsk (don’t even try to pronounce it) at HearNebraska’s benefit show at O’Leavers in Omaha. Somewhere between punk, prog rock, and post-rock, Irkutsk is truely its own country of sounds, maybe even continent. Enjoy!
